Describe one simple thing you do that brings joy to your life.
In a place where buildings look decrepit and new, where the sky can be grey or blue,
And shoving is disrespect but understood,
Respect can only be earned through how well one can survive,
And dignity is held in the way they stride,
I let my feet hit the street.
But now, a plague of slow walkers sweep the land,
Where bodegas and crack dealers once stand,
They shun away the shape of their hand,
And cast aside the wisdom that makes the brand,
I still let my feet hit the street.
The bright lights lure, a siren’s song cures,
Where avacado toast replaces the bacon egg N cheese,
A physical displacement, for a transient community,
For which they sucked the soul out of its very soil,
I will always let my feet hit the street.
